Museums for all

Type: Educational itinerary

Every Wednesday from now until 31 December 2009, senior citizens and the disabled who are resident in Rome, will be able to enjoy a guided tour of all City owned and run museums absolutely free of charge

Specially equipped means of transport will be provide for the disabled and a coach with around 50 seats will be made available to senior citizens who would otherwise find it difficult to reach the museums.

A calendar of pre-determined visits should be consulted by those interested so that they can book in advance by telephoning the City Council's Department for Social Policies on 06 67 105 164. Four guides will be available to accompany these groups and the Department has also devised special didactic routes for the disabled, paying particular attention to those with impaired or no vision.

The museums involved are:

Musei Capitolini
Centrale Montemartini
Mercati di Traiano
Museo dell’Ara Pacis
Museo di Roma
Museo Napoleonico
Museo Carlo Bilotti
Museo di Roma in Trastevere
Musei di Villa Torlonia
Museo Civico di Zoologia

These trails have been concentrated in the Capitoline Museums and the Museum of the Imperial Fora located in Trajan's Market that are particularly well-suited to host initiatives of this type.
