The ticket office is situated on the Piazza del Campidoglio, on the ground floor of the Palazzo dei Conservatori.

* Please note: According to the Municipal by-law, due to the exceptionality of the exhibition, people usually entitled to free admission must purchase a € 2,00 concessionary ticket.
Free admission is granted to children under 6 years, groups of elementary and (lower) middle schools, EU disabled people and their carers and RomaPass holders (if used to access the first 2 sites).

Just show your printed receipt at the turnstiles of the Capitoline Museums and the Ara Pacis Museum; no need to go to the ticket office.
In all other museums show your printed receipt at the ticket office (without standing in line) and get your tickets.

Summary of regulations that govern entry to museums and archaeological sites

FREE ADMISSION

Free admission (for which a special free ticket is issued), except for the Ara Pacis new exhibition space and the Capitoline Museums (during some exhibits), is granted to the following categories:

  1. to residents in the city of Rome under 18 and over 65 years of age, except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  2. to all children under 6 years of age;
  3. to EU tourist guides in possession of a valid permit issued by the relevant authority;
  4. to EU tourist interpreters in possession of a valid permit issued by the relevant authority;
  5. to ICOM (International Council of Museums), ICOMOS (International Council on Monument and Sites) members, foreign and Italian cultural institutes (such as the Lincei Academy, the Institute of Roman Studies, the Friends of the Museums of Rome, ICCROM, the Central Institute of Restoration) members, except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  6. for study or research reasons, certified by Italian or foreign schools or universities, academies, research and cultural institutes , departments of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities or other offices of Rome City Administration;, except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  7. to all visitors during Week of Culture and the anniversary of Rome’s foundation (Natale di Roma, April 21), except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  8. to all visitors in occasion of cultural events in Rome, organized by the City Administration or under a European directive or Ministerial initiative, except for the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  9. to school groups accompanied by their teachers, when booked in advance, with a list agreed by the head of the institution, except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  10. to EU teachers and students of Architecture, Conservation of Cultural Heritage, Educational Science and Literature studies (major in archaeology or art history). Free admission is granted when showing a valid certificate of registration for the current academic year, except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  11. to EU teachers and students of Fine Arts Academies or corresponding institutions. Free admission is granted when showing a valid certificate of registration for the current academic year, except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  12. to Roma Pass holders, when visiting the first 2 sites included in the offer and the following museums Museo della Repubblica Romana e della memoria garibaldina, Museo Bilotti a Villa Borghese, Museo Canonica, Museo delle Mura, Museo Napoleonico and Villa di Massenzio (during Roma Pass validity period and in addition to the 2 free admissions);
  13. to students holding a “Student Card” issued by the Provincial Board of the Students of Rome, except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  14. to the citizens of Paris, in accordance with reciprocal agreement made when Rome and Paris were twinned, except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  15. to prominent guests of the City of Rome Administration during special events; does not to apply to the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  16. to EU visitors with disabilities and a family member or a carer employed in social and health care services;
  17. to blood donors and a companion during the Summer Blood Donation Campaign (1 July 2014 – 15 October 2014), presenting a thank you letter (for the bloodletting) issued by the Municipality of Rome. except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  18. to employees of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage of the City of Rome, as well as to archaeologists, art historians and architects of the Archaeological Superintendence of Rome, the Superintendence of Monuments of Rome, Rome Museum Complex, requiring access for study or research reasons, upon presentation of their ID card, does not to apply to the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  19. to journalists upon presentation of a valid press card for the current year, does not to apply to the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis;
  20. only for the MACRO Museum, to members of cultural associations, foundations and institutions linked to the museum by reciprocal relationships;
  21. to all visitors for the European Heritage Days, except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis.

CONCESSIONS

Concessionary fares are  available in all museums and archaeological sites (with the exception for the

shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis) for:

  1. EU visitors aged between 6 and 25 and over 65 years, and City of Rome citizens aged between the age of 18 and 25 years;
  2. teachers of state and city schools with permanent contracts ;
  3. Bibliocard holders (library card issued by the City of Rome Library Institution);
  4. for promotional initiatives, aimed at tourist, cultural and sport promotion;
  5. ATAC and Metrebus annual pass holders;
  6. Roma Pass holders, when visiting the third museums and/or archaeological sites onwards.

Concessionary fares for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization:

  1. to student groups accompanied by their teachers, when booked in advance, with a list agreed by the head of the institution for citizens between the ages of 6 and 18 and over 65 years;

In special circumstances the Municipality of Rome reserves the right to grant free admission to museums, archaeological and monumental areas and sites.

ROMA PASS

The Museums of the Municipality are covered by the Roma Pass, the first cultural tourism card in the capital, which offers price benefits and services that make visiting the city easier.

Roma Pass allows:

  1. free entry the first 2 museums and/or archaeological sites of your choice
  2. free admission includes the exhibition held in the museum
  3. reduced ticket prices to all other museums and/or archaeological sites visited thereafter
  4. free admission to the following museums: Museo della Repubblica Romana e della memoria garibaldina, Museo Bilotti a Villa Borghese, Museo Canonica, Museo delle Mura, Museo Napoleonico and Villa di Massenzio (during Roma Pass validity period and in addition to the 2 free admissions)
